Pfizer Global Medical Grants & Partnerships Announces a New Oncology Independent Medical Education RFP

25 de marzo de 2025

Pfizer Global Medical Grants & Partnerships (GMGP) supports the global healthcare community’s independent initiatives (e.g., research, quality improvement, or education) to improve patient outcomes in areas of unmet medical need that are aligned with Pfizer’s medical and/or scientific strategies.

Pfizer’s GMGP competitive grant program involves a publicly posted Request for Proposal (RFP) that provides detail regarding a general area of interest, sets timelines for review and approval, and uses an internal Pfizer review process to make final grant decisions. Organizations are invited to submit an application addressing the knowledge gaps as outlined in the specific RFP.

For all independent medical education grants, the grant requester (and ultimately the grantee) is responsible for the design, implementation, and conduct of the independent initiative supported by the grant. Pfizer must not be involved in any aspect of project development, nor the conduct of the independent education program.

Date RFP Issued: March 20, 2025

Geographic Scope: United States, United Kingdom, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, and Japan are the priority countries although proposals with global reach are also encouraged.

Clinical Area: Oncology - General

Link to full RFP: Diagnosis and Treatment of Cancer Cachexia

Application Due Date: May 13, 2025

Specific Area of Interest: Cancer cachexia is a wasting disorder defined by an unintentional weight loss of > 5% or >2% if the patient has a BMI < 20 kg/m2 or sarcopenia. It is an under-diagnosed disorder. Prevalence of cachexia can vary between cancer types, but rates of cachexia are known to be high in pancreatic, gastric, esophageal and lung cancers. It effects not just body weight but also overall quality of life including how patients feel and function. Additionally, clinical evidence has demonstrated cachexia can diminish a patient’s ability to tolerate therapy which may have a negative impact on overall survival.

This RFP is seeking proposals for independent education initiatives that will improve the ability of healthcare professionals to:

  • Recognize the signs and symptoms of cachexia.
  • Use diagnostic tools to assess, measure and correctly document cachexia in patient records.
  • Utilize current strategies to improve appetite, lean body mass, or physical function in patients with cachexia.
  • Become familiar with the mechanism of GDF-15 and its role as a target in cachexia treatment.
  • Consider patients for a cachexia clinical trial, understanding the status of new therapeutic options currently in development.

Examples of educational formats that will be considered under this RFP include but are not limited to:

  • On-agenda educational sessions during live conferences
  • Symposia or symposia series alongside major congresses such as ESMO and ASCO GI
  • Grand rounds – single events or series
  • Online articles, newsletter articles, training courses, webinars
  • Social media posted & linked content
  • Videos, podcasts, infographics, animations

Refer to complete details in the full RFP document. If you have questions regarding this RFP, please direct them in writing to the Grant Officer, Jacqueline Waldrop (Jacqueline.Waldrop@pfizer.com).
